Eye Lenses for Weak Eyesight
If you've been prescribed glasses by your optometrist, you can switch to contact lenses for the same prescription. Reading your prescription card:
- SPH (Sphere) — your main power. Negative numbers (-0.50, -1.00, -2.00) are for myopia (nearsightedness). Positive numbers (+0.50, +1.00) are for hyperopia (farsightedness). Most Pakistani buyers have negative SPH.
- CYL (Cylinder) — astigmatism correction. If your prescription has CYL value (-0.75, -1.25, etc.), you need a Toric lens like Biomedics Toric or Acuity Toric — not a regular spherical lens.
- AXIS — direction of astigmatism. Only relevant if you need Toric lenses.
- BC (Base Curve) — usually 8.4mm, 8.5mm, or 8.6mm. Most contact lenses in our range are 8.6mm which fits the majority of Pakistani eyes.
- DIA (Diameter) — usually 14.0mm to 14.5mm. Standard.

Daily vs Monthly Transparent Lenses
Daily disposables (Bella One Day Transparent, Focus Dailies, Clear Vision Daily, Freshkon One-Day) are worn once and discarded. Best for occasional wear, travel, or anyone with hygiene-sensitive eyes. Higher cost per wear but zero cleaning required.
Monthly disposables (Acuvue 2, Biomedics 55, Eye Soft, Bausch & Lomb Soflens 59) are reused for 30 days with daily cleaning in multi-purpose solution. Best balance of cost and convenience for most Pakistani full-time wearers.
Bi-weekly / weekly extended wear (Acuvue Oasys) is approved for up to 7 days continuous wear including overnight. Convenient but requires high oxygen permeability — Acuvue Oasys uses silicone hydrogel for this reason.
Silicone Hydrogel vs Standard Hydrogel
Newer silicone hydrogel transparent lenses (Acuvue Oasys, Bausch & Lomb Ultra, O2 Optix, Air Optix) allow 5-6x more oxygen to reach the cornea compared to standard hydrogel. This means whiter, healthier-looking eyes after long wear and lower risk of dry-eye discomfort. The trade-off is higher price — silicone hydrogel lenses cost PKR 9,000+ vs PKR 3,000-4,000 for standard hydrogel.
Water Content & Comfort
Water content affects how comfortable a lens feels on dry eyes. Higher water = more comfortable initially but can dry out faster in air-conditioned offices:
- Acuvue 2: 58% water
- Biomedics 55: 55% water
- Bausch & Lomb Ultra: 46% water (silicone hydrogel — feels comfortable despite lower water)
- Hoya: 38% water (suits warm dry climates)
